Dissipation in nanocrystalline-diamond nanomechanical resonators

چکیده
We have measured the dissipation and frequency of nanocrystalline-diamond nanomechanical resonators with resonant frequencies between 13.7 MHz and 157.3 MHz, over a temperature range of 1.4–274 K. Using both magnetomotive network analysis and a time-domain ring-down technique, we have found the dissipation in this material to have a temperature dependence roughly following T, with Q'10 at low temperatures. The frequency dependence of a large dissipation feature at ;35–55 K is consistent with thermal activation over a 0.02 eV barrier with an attempt frequency of 10 GHz. © 2004 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1646213#

Evidence of universality in the dynamical response of nanomechanical ultra-nanocrystalline diamond resonators at millikelvin temperatures
We report millikelvin-temperature measurements of dissipation and frequency shift in megahertzrange resonators fabricated from ultra-nanocrystalline diamond. Frequency shift δf/f0 and dissipation Q−1 demonstrate temperature dependence in the millikelvin range similar to the glass model of two level systems. The logarithmic temperature dependence of δf/f0 is in good agreement with the glass mode...
متن کاملNanofluidics of Single-Crystal Diamond Nanomechanical Resonators.
Single-crystal diamond nanomechanical resonators are being developed for countless applications. A number of these applications require that the resonator be operated in a fluid, that is, a gas or a liquid. Here, we investigate the fluid dynamics of single-crystal diamond nanomechanical resonators in the form of nanocantilevers. First, we measure the pressure-dependent dissipation of diamond na...

متن کاملTemperature dependence of mechanical stiffness and dissipation in ultrananocrystalline diamond
Ultrananocrystalline diamond (UNCD) films are promising for radio frequency micro electro mechanical systems (RF-MEMS) resonators due to the extraordinary physical properties of diamond, such as high Young’s modulus, quality factor, and stable surface chemistry. UNCD films used for this study are grown on 150 mm silicon wafers using hot filament chemical vapor deposition (HFCVD) at 680°C. UNCD ...
